Fire Aware

Fire-Aware Navigation & Evacuation Engine
Driving route & wildfire context A road route plus source-labelled BCWS incident points, mapped evacuation areas, DriveBC still images and an opt-in community-mapped fire-station layer. Not a safety assessment.

Waiting for route data

A route will appear only when the routing service returns road geometry. No route or safety assessment has been calculated yet.

Road distance · provider ETA Not calculated
Nearest active BCWS point Not assessed
Smoke · wind · road closures Not assessed by this tool
Current evacuation polygons Not assessed
Route source Not calculated
Limitations: a BCWS incident point is not a mapped fire perimeter. A line/polygon intersection is a spatial reference, not a clearance. This tool does not evaluate road closures, visibility, smoke exposure, conditions, or official evacuation instructions. Follow EmergencyInfoBC and DriveBC.
No route evidence is available until a road route is returned.

  • Location lookup: curated public B.C. places, GPS, coordinates or a street address. Community names are matched locally and never sent to a geocoder. A street address is looked up as you type through the Province of British Columbia's public address service (no key or account, and the service sees the text you type); Fire Aware keeps only the chosen point's coordinates and never stores the address itself. A picked address stays in the box and is only shared with a map provider when you open one of the external navigation links. Do not enter unit numbers, gate codes or other confidential information. Calculating a route sends its waypoint coordinates to the public Project OSRM routing service; external navigation links may share place names or coordinates with the selected map provider.
  • Fire stations: OpenStreetMap community mapping; incomplete, potentially outdated and not an emergency-service directory. When this optional layer is enabled, the map centre is sent by POST through Fire Aware to Overpass (an OpenStreetMap data service).
